A one-to-one laptop initiative has been part of the efforts to rebuild the school system in Joplin, Mo., which was struck by a devastating tornado in May 2011. When the district's 2,200 high-school students returned to school in August, they all received Apple MacBook computers as part of a plan to "keep families in Joplin and give them something to look forward to," C.J. Huff, district superintendent, said.
