Roof collapses not due to snow load, but more snow coming

Anchorage, Alaska, has had 100 inches of snow so far this season. Roofs on two commercial buildings collapsed, but city officials say it was likely due to design or construction problems, because the snow load was "well below" what the municipal building code calls for. However, dense, wetter snow tends to fall later in the winter and residents were warned to watch for drifts that could add to loads.
