UK retailers keep inflation rate down amid slower sales

UK retail prices rose 1.4% in January, the smallest rise in two years, and the inflation rate for non-food goods was flat as retailers kept prices down in an effort to attract cash-strapped shoppers, according to the British Retail Consortium. "For there to be any significant improvement in retailers’ fortunes in the coming year, it’s essential that people feel better about their personal finances and become more willing to spend," said director general Stephen Robertson.
