Alcatel, Orange push the envelope with 400 Gbps optical link

Alcatel-Lucent and France Telecom-Orange have inaugurated an operational long-distance 400 Gbps optical link connecting the cities of Paris and Lyon, France. The terrestrial backbone -- which is being tested by French educational and research network Renater -- supports aggregate capacity of 17.6 terabits per second over 44 wavelengths and will likely be used to support next-generation telepresence products.
