China is seeking to exploit unconventional energy sources such as shale natural gas while tackling problems of technology, technical expertise and infrastructure. "There are pilot projects, but it's just a start. We haven't figured out which way to develop this; we're still learning. We see the shale-gas revolution in the U.S., and we get a sense of what is possible," said Xu Xiaojie, an energy expert with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
