Families taking vacations during the school year strains educators

To avoid appearing to condone the absenteeism, some principals discourage teachers from accommodating families who pull their children out of school for trips. Many families, however, believe the vacation's cultural and historical benefits, not to mention the diminished crowds, are worth the hassles of making up the missed work.
