Opinion: School choice the path to more freedom for teachers

In an opinion piece, Joseph L. Bast, author and president of The Heartland Institute, argues educators have lost the respect and rights other professionals take for granted because public education operates outside the sphere of traditional marketplace forces. What's needed, he says, is school choice, which would free teachers from the restrictive bureaucracy and regulations that handicap them and boost school productivity.
