SEC's Cox seeks compromise on independent board plan

SEC Chairman Christopher Cox will continue to push for independent directors to run mutual-fund boards, despite a less-than-enthusiastic response from the SEC and the rejection of an earlier plan by a federal appeals court. Cox hopes to craft a compromise rule on the issue, according to people familiar with his plans.
