American Airlines inspects, repairs evacuation slides

American Airlines has moved quickly to inspect and repair rear evacuation slides on some 270 MD-80 aircraft that may have been damaged when mechanics used the wrong tool to pack the slides into tail cones. An FAA spokeswoman stressed that no in-flight incidents had been reported, and that the airline's quick checks prevented any safety threats.
