Survey: Loyalty-program effectiveness swings with the economy

A survey indicates that the effectiveness of hotel loyalty programs appears to be largely tied to the strength of the economy. Interestingly, the hotel chain listed as having the most effective loyalty program, Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts, plans to scrap the program and replace it with a new offering, despite the fact that 71% of guests said the program was a "very important" factor in choosing where to stay.
