Study: Gastric bands benefit obese teens more than lifestyle changes

A study of 50 severely obese teenagers in Australia showed that gastric banding surgery proved more effective than diet plans and other lifestyle interventions in achieving weight loss after two years. Some physicians hope the research will help convince the FDA to approve gastric bands for use in obese adolescents.
