Momentum in the mobile device market has swung in favor of smartphones, led by the allure of Apple's iPhone and Google's Android. EMarketer projects U.S. smartphone users will reach 73.3 million by the end of 2011, representing 31% of the total mobile user population. "Consumer interest in acquiring smarter mobile devices is rising, particularly in emerging markets, where smartphones represent many users' primary mobile Internet access device," said eMarketer Principal Analyst Noah Elkin.
