Long-term luxury lodging is gaining attention from hotels

Hotel firms are increasingly taking note of an underserved niche in the lodging market: luxury extended-stay residences. These properties -- which, according to Smith Travel Research, number only about 3,000 across the U.S. -- serve guests who desire full-service amenities for longer-term stays. Hotel chains such as Marriott International and Ritz-Carlton have launched their own branded luxury offerings in this segment.
