The NPD Group reports that gamers are increasingly shifting to digital gaming options, which helped lead to an overall 34% year-over-year drop in sales of video game products to $750.6 million in January. Software and hardware sales were both off by 38% from a year ago, with $355.9 million being rung up for software and $199.5 million registered in hardware purchases. Accessory sales last month declined by 18% compared with a year earlier, to $195.2 million. There were also fewer newly released video games during the month than a year ago.
