Research IDs risk factors for post-NICU discharge mortality

A study in The Journal of Pediatrics found an increased mortality risk among premature babies with extremely low birth weight after neonatal intensive care unit discharge among those who were African-American, had a long NICU stay or lacked health insurance. Researchers reported that maternal exposure to intrapartum antibiotics was linked to a reduced post-NICU discharge mortality risk.
