Mass. uses grow-your-own-talent initiatives to help fill skills gap

In the Pioneer Valley region of Massachusetts, a shortage of young, skilled workers could make it difficult for employers to replace retiring workers, according to the New England Public Policy Center of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Commonwealth Corp. To help address the possible shortfall, local colleges, industries, employment boards and other organizations are working to enhance training programs and support more science, technology, engineering and math programs in schools. This article highlights six promising initiatives.
