For-profit firm prepares Philadelphia's high school curriculum

As part of its efforts to revamp the high school curriculum, the Philadelphia School District has hired a division of test-prep firm Kaplan to write a core curriculum. While some teachers say the curriculum sets uniform standards, others contend the pacing is too hurried and the benchmark assessments are too focused on facts, particularly in social studies.
