$2.6B project preserves old, builds new

A giant $2.6 billion mixed-use project is under way on almost 67 acres in London's derelict King's Cross. Developers have taken extreme care to preserve the historic buildings and will replace a dual geopitched roof on one of them that will later become part of a new college campus. Temporary scaffolding used windows for anchoring since drilling was not allowed on exterior walls. When complete, the project will include 8 million square feet of floor space, almost two dozen new streets, 25 new office buildings, 2,000 homes, parks and retail space.
