Linda Thomsen, SEC enforcement chief, resigns from post

Linda Thomsen, the Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement director who drew congressional anger for failing to uncover Bernard Madoff's alleged mammoth fraud, is resigning to return to private practice after 14 years with the commission. The SEC's new chairwoman, Mary Schapiro, is replacing the regulator's senior managers and has promised to reinvigorate the SEC's enforcement division.
