Canada, U.S. study expansion of trusted-traveler program

Canadian airline passengers are complaining about a new security procedure that requires them to put their hands in their pockets -- or down their pants -- then have them swabbed for explosive residue. But U.S. and Canadian officials are exploring an alternative that could make travel easier for those who cross the border frequently: Nexus, a trusted-traveler program with 383,000 members, could be expanded "to support security measures at the airport," according to a spokeswoman for the Canada Border Services Agency.
