Adult talk in NICUs may improve preemies' language development

Premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit who were exposed to a greater amount of adult talk showed improvements in language skills at 7 months and 18 months corrected ages, according to a study in the journal Pediatrics. At 32 weeks, every 100 adult words heard per hour resulted in a two-point increase in language scores, researchers said.
