Class is offered to help boost Minn. middle-grades girls' self image

Three Minnesota middle schools are offering eighth-grade girls an English credit for a class called "Lovin' the Skin I'm In," which focuses on self image. Students read books about bullying, examine media messages, use journals, pen stories on family history and conduct research for papers about influential women. "Many of our girls are walking wounded. They don't know their identity. They don't know their history," said activist Robin Hickman, who first created the class as a book club for girls.
