How Singapore supports teachers early in careers, beyond

Singapore is regarded as a leader in education, and journalist Sarah Butrymowicz found on a recent trip to the National Institute of Education -- the school responsible for training the country's teachers -- that teaching is a desired profession in Singapore. Upon graduation, teachers are required to spend three years in the classroom with a mentor teacher while they continue their training, Butrymowicz explains. Singapore also does a lot to support beginning teachers, and teaching students are required to keep electronic portfolios, Butrymowicz writes.
