Unions aim to represent adjunct instructors in Philadelphia

Two unions -- the Service Employees International Union and the American Federation of Teachers -- are courting part-time instructors at colleges and universities in Philadelphia. AFT launched United Academics of Philadelphia in November and is seeking to become a citywide bargaining unit bringing together about 15,000 adjuncts working in the city. SEIU spokesman Christopher Honey said it was too early to speculate on how the two unions may work together in the city.
