Baltimore school board contemplating more teacher layoffs

Following last week's vote by teachers rejecting a 6.8% pay cut or a furlough, Superintendent Bonnie S. Copeland might recommend the Baltimore City school board lay off an additional 1,200 teachers or impose mandatory pay cuts by March 1. The school system is facing a $58 million deficit.
