Charlotte district gears up for grilling by superior court judge

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system is bracing for a tough hearing next month with Judge Howard Manning Jr. as part of a 10-year-old lawsuit about state funding to districts. So far, the judge doesn't agree with the argument of schools chief James Pughsley that the system is well-managed, despite its poor scores on state exams.
