GAO calls for steps to protect Medicare from drug price schemes

The congressional watchdog office suggested legislators take steps to make sure Medicare is not overcharged by drugmakers taking advantage of the program's complex operations. The Government Accountability Office told members of Congress the agency relies on private companies to report drug prices, leaving Medicare vulnerable to false-billing schemes.
