Construction of Vancouver super-bridge underway

Construction on the cable-stayed Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver, British Columbia, has officially begun. The plan now calls for a 10-lane single span, while a previous plan for the 45-year-old bridge would have included twinning it with another span to its west. Officials decided that the single new bridge would be less expensive than the twinning and eventual need to demolish one and build another.
