Education spending may be a major point of negotiation as House and Senate leaders design a final, compromise economic-stimulus package to present to President Barack Obama. The Senate's vote on Tuesday that omitted billions in school-modernization funds troubled Obama. "Why wouldn't we want to build state-of-the-art schools with science labs that are teaching our kids the skills they need for the 21st century ... and, by the way, right now, will create jobs?" he said in a televised news conference.
