Inauguration brings in nearly $95M for D.C.-area hotels

After all was said and done, the four-day period surrounding President Barack Obama's inauguration resulted in regional hotel revenues of $94.8 million, according to Destination DC, the city's tourism arm. Visitors paid an average of $605 a night on Jan. 20, the day Obama was sworn in, and tourism revenue for the period of Jan. 17 to 20 could outpace the $70 million spent on transportation, law enforcement and other services in the area.
