According to eMarketer, in 2009 44.2% of all U.S. Internet users will visit social networks at least once per month. Overall, there will be 88.1 million online social-network users in the U.S., a 10.8% increase from 2008. Usage grew 11.1% in 2008, reaching 79.5 million people, or 41.2% of the total U.S. Internet user population. By 2013, more than one-half (51.8%) of U.S. Internet users will be regular social-network users.
