Australian jobs report, Chinese inflation data drive up Asian markets

Asian-Pacific stock markets gained Thursday, with shares in Hong Kong and China increasing because of news that the mainland's consumer-price inflation has moderated. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 1.9%, China's Shanghai Composite inched up 0.1% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 climbed 0.9%. South Korea's Kospi Composite and shares in the Philippines gained 1.8%. India's Sensex added 1.5%, Singapore's Straits Times Index advanced 0.7% and New Zealand's NZX 50 dropped 0.7%. Markets in Taiwan and Japan were closed for a holiday.
