Maryland ranks No. 1 for second year in students passing AP exams:

Maryland had the highest percentage of public high-school graduates in the country passing at least one Advanced Placement test. About 25% of the state's graduates passed one AP test -- about nine percentage points higher than the national average. Maryland Schools Superintendent Nancy S. Grasmick said the state has worked to enroll more students in AP courses by concentrating on average-achieving middle-schoolers and readying them for more rigorous courses.
