Researchers to conduct muscle disorder gene therapy trials in dogs

After discovering the myotubular myopathy gene in a female Labrador retriever in 2008, researchers are preparing to conduct gene therapy trials on the dog's pups that are afflicted with the genetic muscular disorder in a bid to find a treatment. The trials on the dogs are a necessary step to advancing the gene therapy to human clinical trials, one of the researchers said.
