Workers kick the smoking habit through peer support

Employee testimonials from workers who have successfully quit smoking are effective in engaging other workers to do the same, employers have found. Another strategy that works: A corporate tobacco-free policy. "Whenever we make an announcement like that, the numbers go off the chart in the weeks afterwards with people thinking 'This is what I need to kick the habit,'" said Fred Williams, the director of health management strategies at Quest Diagnostics.
