Greener alternatives gain traction within chemical supply chain

The trend toward green chemistry is being strengthened by greater awareness of chemical compounds that may be harmful for human health and the environment, writes Joel Makower. Among chemical makers, BASF and Dow Chemical are two industry majors switching to greener chemical-manufacturing methods. California's Green Chemistry Initiative also has a role in the march toward greener chemicals, Makower argues, as it would make producers explore alternatives for chemicals of concern.
