IBM, ABB lead week of big deals for the smart grid

The smart grid is benefiting from millions of dollars in new contracts that were awarded over the past week, including a $68.1 million deal between IBM and the Independent Electricity System Operator of Ontario for equipment and services to support the Canadian province's Meter Data Management and Repository system. Separately, ABB signed a deal valued at roughly $258.6 million with the Bonneville Power Administration for upgrades to a direct current converter station in Oregon that is a critical link between the Pacific Northwest and Southern California.
