Patients with BIID may seek amputation of healthy limbs

Individuals with Body Integrity Identity Disorder have an unexplained urge to be disabled, often through amputation of a limb. Researchers have linked the condition to a problem in the right parietal lobe of the brain. Research psychiatrist Dr. Michael First estimates that thousands of Americans suffer from BIID.
