Some Calif. educators say math options in grade 8 make sense

Educators from some California school districts are speaking out in support of a resolution passed last month by the state education board that said eighth-graders can take Algebra I or Mathematics I. In the past, students had to take Algebra I in eighth grade. Officials say the decision makes sense, partly because it fits with the Common Core State Standards and because many eighth-graders aren't yet ready for algebra.
