Fla. lawmakers consider expanding NP roles

House lawmakers in Florida are considering a bill that would allow nurse practitioners and other advanced registered nurse practitioners in the state to provide health care services without physician oversight. The bill received strong support from Rep. Cary Pigman, R-Sebring, an emergency department physician. "Number one, the bill expands the scope of practice for Florida's advanced practice nurses, allows them to expend controlled substances, and sets standards for that practice and brings us in line with most other states in the country," Pigman said.
