HPV vaccine may protect girls from genital warts

The recommended three doses of human papillomavirus vaccine prevented 59 more cases of genital warts per 100,000 women aged 10 to 24 compared with two doses, Swedish researchers found. Following the three-dose vaccine schedule yielded greater risk reduction, but two doses offered some protection against genital warts, according to the study in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study did not address differences in effectiveness in cancer prevention.
