Minn. teacher proposes renaming Columbus Day as First Peoples Day

Scott Bender, a social studies teacher at Red Wing High School in Minnesota, is urging the Red Wing Human Rights Commission, of which Bender is a part, to rename the Columbus Day federal holiday as First Peoples Day. Bender believes the proposed name change for the October holiday will promote multiculturalism and improve relations with the area's Native American communities.
