N.Y. authorities break up bird-fighting ring, among the largest in U.S. history

New York authorities rescued 3,000 roosters and hens and arrested nine people in connection with a bird-fighting ring. An apartment building in Queens, a pet shop in Brooklyn and a farm in Plattekill were all raided as part of "Operation Angry Birds." "Cockfighting is a cruel, abusive and barbaric practice that tortures animals, endangers the health and safety of the public and is known to facilitate other crimes," said state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
