Ky. debates expanding prescription writing for NPs

Kentucky lawmakers are considering a bill to allow nurse practitioners to prescribe some controlled substances. Current law only allows NPs to write prescriptions for routine illnesses, and while some argue the change would improve patient care, others say it could worsen problems with controlled substances. Nurse practitioners supporting the bill say they would keep up communication with doctors to make sure patient care is not compromised.
