Workers determine if ground can support new Detroit River bridge

Work is under way in Detroit to determine whether the ground can support the weight of foundations for a new bridge crossing the Detroit River into Canada. The bridge would help alleviate traffic on the busy Ambassador Bridge. Workers started drilling holes as deep as 1,700 feet near the River Rouge's Zug Island to test the bedrock.
