Folate levels linked to dementia in older patients

A new study found elderly patients with folate deficiencies were more than three times as likely to suffer from dementia, and patients with low folate levels were also at an increased risk for dementia. The study also found a link between weight loss and the early stages of mental decline, suggesting providers should pay more attention to a suspected dementia patient's physical health and nutritional status.
