HHS publishes proposed rule to implement parts of patient safety act

The HHS has issued a patient safety act rule that would implement portions of the 2005 Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act. The act requires the department to facilitate the creation of databases to collect and analyze data on medical errors or near errors, and would require the analysis of statistics and trends to be made public. The rule would establish the processes, rules and authorities needed to implement the act.
