Board to ask state to waive requirements on start date, course credits

The Palm Beach County, Fla., School Board is looking to secure a waiver from the state to start school a week earlier in order to allow students to take semester exams before winter break. The school board also will seek more flexibility in the number of hours students need to earn high school course credit, saying they'd like the flexibility to focus on whether a student has mastered a course rather than whether the student has the required number of hours.
