Low hurdle rate makes charitable lead trusts attractive

A strategy called the "charitable lead trust" lets investors take advantage of the bear market by transferring assets to a trust set aside for charities or heirs. What makes these trusts especially attractive now to estate planners is that the IRS rate that predicts how much assets will grow -- commonly called the "hurdle" rate -- is so low.
