Commentary: Congress faces difficult hurdles in pursuing TSCA reform

U.S. lawmakers are moving to overhaul the country's chemical-safety regulations after more studies revealed that certain chemicals adversely affect human health and the environment, writes Bill Chameides in this column. "The chemical industry has created a cornucopia of new compounds that were supposed to make our lives better and that seemed to be great ideas but, as it turned out all too often ... not so much," Chameides writes. It remains to be seen whether lawmakers can set aside their differences long enough to create a "meaningful ban on environmental toxicity," he adds.
